The Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary

I say the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary because I need the graces of the spirit such as patience, moral courage, faith, and hope.

Joyful Mysteries (usually said on Mondays and Saturdays) 

1. The Annunciation (think of the grace of humility) when the Angel Gabriel appears to Mary to announce the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ;

2. The Visitation (think of charity towards your neighbours) when Mary visits Elizabeth whose son John the Baptist leaps for joy in her womb!

3. The Nativity (think of the spirit of poverty) when it was the Birth of Jesus;

4. The Presentation (think of the spirit of sacrifice) when Baby Jesus was presented in the Temple;

5. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple (think of the spirit of piety) when Jesus was found in Jerusalem teaching in the Temple.

   
   

Luminous Mysteries (usually said on Thursdays) 

1. Jesus' Baptism (think of submission to God’s Will) in the River Jordan by his cousin John the Baptist; 

2. The Wedding at Cana (think of a greater love for Mary) when Jesus performed his first miracle; 

3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God (think of the grace of conversion) when Jesus calls for repentance;

4. The Transfiguration (think of a greater fear [reverence and/or awe] of God) when Jesus' divine glory was revealed;

5. The Institution of the Eucharist (think of a spirit of thanksgiving) when Jesus celebrated The Last Supper.

   
   

Sorrowful Mysteries (usually said on Tuesdays and Fridays) 

1. The Agony in the Garden (think of true contrition for your sins) when Jesus prays before His arrest on Holy Thursday after the Last Supper; 

2. The Scourging at the Pillar (think of the spirit of purity) when Jesus is whipped;

3. The Crowning with Thorns (think of the grade of moral courage) when Jesus was mocked with the crown of thorns;

4. The Carrying of the Cross (think of the grace of patience) when Jesus carries His cross to Calvary;

5. The Crucifixion and Death (thinking the grace of final perseverance) when Jesus dies on the cross.

   
   

Glorious Mysteries (usually said on Wednesdays and Sundays) 

1. The Resurrection (think of the grace of faith) when Jesus rose from the dead; 

2. The Ascension (think of the grace of hope) when Jesus ascended to Heaven;

3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit (think of the grace of love) this is Pentecost;

4. The Assumption (think of the grace of a happy death) when Mary was taken body and soul to Heaven;

5. The Coronation (think of the grace of eternal salvation) when Mary was crowned the Queen of Heaven.
